On Wednesday 8th November, a crucial encounter was played in the ongoing Primary Schools Football competition.
The Charlestown Primary School which had already secured a place in the semifinals, was up against the St. Thomas’ Primary School, who had to win or draw the encounter, to qualify as well.
If they lost the match, that would make way for the VOJN team to secure a spot in the semis.
It made for an enthralling story.
As per usual, the CPS lads were out of the blocks with real aggression and they soon struck the back of the net.
Half-time score -1 goal to nil in favour of CPS and the water was looking dark for the St. Thomas’ team.
However, well into the second half, star player for St. Thomas’, Eliab Dickenson, made a run through on the right flank and peeled off a stunning left booter that rattled the back of the net.
The St. Thomas’ fans were ecstatic.
A few minutes later, there was a handball call on one of the Charlestown defenders, offering a free kick from pretty close range, on the right flank.
Eliab Dickenson again, left the goalie stranded, this time using his right boot.
Well, some of the St. Thomas fans were doing cartwheels!
With seconds to go in the game, Kardeem Taylor made an amazing strike from the center of the field, which rocketed into the back of the net.
The CPS fans went wild!
It was a honorable to draw 2 goals –all and effectively secured a place in the semis for the St. Thomas’ Primary team.
