Five Soldiers Commissioned and Recognised For Excellence At SKNDF Annual Christmas Luncheon

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) marked a significant milestone during its Annual Christmas Luncheon on Friday, December 20, 2024, as five soldiers were officially commissioned and received their badges of rank from Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew.

Second Lieutenant Lakeem Crosse, Second Lieutenant Mario O’Flerharty, Second Lieutenant Jelani Griffin, and Second Lieutenant Jon-Lewin Watson were officially commissioned, while First Lieutenant Percival Thomas was elevated from Second Lieutenant.

Prime Minister Drew and Acting Force Commander, Major Kayode Sutton, congratulated the officers on their promotion, commending their unwavering dedication and service to the SKNDF.“

The elevation of these officers reflects their hard work, discipline, and unwavering dedication to protecting and serving the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. Your achievements today are not only a personal triumph but also a testament to the strength of our Defence Force,” Dr. Drew said.

Major Sutton expressed his gratitude to the officers and ranks of the SKNDF for their dedication and commitment throughout the year. He announced incentives for outstanding soldiers and sailors, encouraging all personnel to strive for excellence in the coming year.

The event also celebrated the Soldier and Sailor of the Year 2024, with Private Gumbs J. and Lance Corporal Stanley R. receiving the prestigious awards for their exemplary service.

The ceremony, steeped in tradition and camaraderie, was also attended by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Glenroy Blanchette, and National Security Advisor Lionel Rawlins.

In keeping with tradition, the Force Orderly Sergeant marked the occasion with a ceremonial drink, officially commencing the Christmas luncheon. In a gesture of appreciation, Prime Minister Drew and the senior and junior officers served lunch to the rank and file, reinforcing the spirit of unity within the Defence Force.
