Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 08, 2016 (SKNIS)—A recent ranking by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) has placed St. Kitts and Nevis as 92 in the top 100 football nations in the world.
In a congratulatory message, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sport, the Honourable Shawn Richards, commended the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) and the National Football team on their achievement.
“The Government and people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis are delighted by the news that St. Kitts Nevis has broken into the ranks of the top 100 football nations in the world. Our recently received rank of 92 is some 29 points higher than our rank just one year ago (121),” said Deputy Prime Minister Richards.
“I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the SKNFA, the National Football team, the supporters and all who have worked, cheered and prayed tirelessly for this feat to be achieved,” he added.
He said “the SKNFA continues to epitomise two of the main pillars on which our future National Sports Policy must be based: “Development and Excellence through Sports”. Both the vision and dedication of this programme continue to pay dividends to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis as we see the energy of the sport in our communities.”
“As we celebrate with you may your go from success to success as the victories get sweeter and sweeter. We all look forward to the day when we will be out there with the iron band in the FIFA World Cup Finals,” the Sport Minister said, while inviting everyone out to support the National Team as they take on Suriname on July 1st at Warner Park.
“Let us all continue to support and rally around the “Sugar Boys” as they carry the name of St. Kitts and Nevis to even higher heights,” he said.
