(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Department of Agriculture Annual Open Day. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Eric Evelyn announced that the Department of Agriculture plans to ‘go all out’ to make this year’s occasion a resounding success.
This was publicized on Monday, February 17, 2014 at a ceremony held at the Agriculture Conference room at Prospect Estate.
According to Evelyn, the Agriculture Open Day is scheduled to run from March 27 to March 29, 2014. As part of the activity the department is organizing a Farm Queen Pageant and a Calypso Show combined as part of the 20th Anniversary celebrations. This pageant was also hosted 10 years ago when the Department celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Open Day.
On Monday four (4) participants and their sponsors were introduced. However, Evelyn acknowledged that there would be five (5) participants on the night of the show which is scheduled to take place on March 29th at the Nevis Cultural Complex.
The contestants are as follows:
Mrs. Grace Williams of Hermitage- Sponsored by the Nevis Growers
Ms. Vanessa Detouche of Golden Grove, Brown Hill- Sponsored by The Development Bank of St. Kitts- Nevis
Ms. Shonnell Christian of Government Road- Sponsored by Tropical Blossoms
Ms. Shoya Lawrence of Burdens Pasture- Sponsored by Moses Auto & Mem’s Pizzaria
Ms. Catherine Seabrookes of Cotton Ground- Sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Housing, Fisheries & Cooperatives
The crowned contestant on the night of the pageant will be awarded a fully paid scholarship to Taiwan.
Some of Nevis’ top calypsonians will meet for the Calypso Show also slated to take place on the night of the pageant.
These are: Astro, Bingi, Wingie, Pupa Wheela, Adowah, Baker, Enforcer, Nutsy and Gharlic.
