Exercise Equipment at The New Road Family Park Meant to Encourage Personal Physical Fitness

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): Adults are strongly encouraged to make use of the exercise equipment at the New Road Family Park when it reopens to the public in late January 2023.

The facility is popular among children who flock to the park to enjoy the playground equipment. There is also equipment and space for older persons to carry out physical fitness activities.

“I would encourage them to use the exercise equipment to get physically fit. I will be here participating as well,” said Deputy Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley. “There’s also a walking track right around the park, so once you would have covered a few laps, it would have been the same as if you walked from Basseterre to Cayon.”

Building strong and cohesive family structures is a goal that the government has fully embraced.

“The Ministry of Social Development has been doing this for a number of years, but I think we are zeroing in even more now with a new administration on taking it to another level,” said Dr. Hanley. “That is why there is a great emphasis now on the new Ministry that we have put together, Youth Empowerment, Aging and Disabilities, because that [segment] would have been ignored, and it is our intention to make sure that they become the main focus, so we are investing in families.”

The New Road Family Park will be governed by a community management team. A maintenance team consisting of workers from the Public Works Department, Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP), Parks and Beaches Unit and other partners will also ensure that the facility is properly looked after.
