BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 7TH 2013 (CUOPM) – A statement by former senior minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy that he did not cross the floor in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, not only contradicts the contents of a letter he sent to the Speaker, but also where he sat in the July 8th sitting in the lawmaking body.
Speaking at a public meeting in Molinuex last week Wednesday, 31st July, 2013, Dr. Harris denied crossing the floor and that he only followed the Hon. Sam Condor, the former Deputy Prime Minister, who resigned from the Government of which they had been Cabinet members from July 1995 until January/February 2013.
“Marcella, did you know that in Dominica, there is a man called Julius Timothy? He was with UWP (United Workers Party). He crossed the floor and me nuh do no cross enuh. Me just went to the Speaker (Hon. Curtis Martin) and say I will not sit by Dr. Douglas.
That man is a bad man. Me nuh mek no cross. Me just went and me tell d Speaker, I want to sit, I want to sit by Sam (Condor). Don’t put me by that wicked man, for Douglas has evil in his heart for me. So how they expect I going go sit down with da man dey. They think a stupid,” said Dr. Harris at the meeting.
On 5th July 2013, under the subject: “Seating Arrangements for the Elected Representatives of St. Christopher 3 and St. Christopher 7,” both Dr. Harris and the Hon. Sam Condor addressed a two-page letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Hon. Curtis Martin.
“Just to be clear, we the undersigned elected representatives of the National Assembly, do not support the government of Dr. Denzil Douglas and we would wish that you make appropriate seating arrangements for us on the Opposition side of the National Assembly Chamber,” stated Condor and Harris in the letter which they signed.
During the July 8th meeting of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, both Messrs Condor and Harris, walked into the Chamber and sat as back benchers with the other members of the opposition.
