BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 16TH 2013 – Former Premier of Nevis, the late Dr. Simeon Daniel has been elevated to National Hero status.
“I also take great pleasure in recognising the outstanding contribution and the long distinguished service of a true Nevisian and Kittitian hero for the role that he has played in the creation of modern Nevis and the advancement of the Federation as a whole,” said St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas during a wreath laying ceremony at the Robert L. Bradshaw Memorial Park in St. Paul’s, St. Kitts to mark National Heroes Day, a National holiday.
Dr. Douglas said that Dr. Daniel, who will now be referred to as The Right Excellent Dr. Simeon Daniel, N.H., “is truly the Father of Modern Nevis.”
Prime Minister Douglas said he earlier Monday morning telephoned Lady Sheila Daniel in Nevis, “to extend on behalf of the Cabinet and the People of St. Kitts and Nevis, our congratulations.”
Dr. Daniel joins three other persons designated National Heroes – Former Premier and Father of Independence, The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, former Premier, The Right Excellent Sir C. A. Paul Southwell and former Trade Union and Parliamentarian, The Right Excellent Sir Joseph Nathaniel France.
