JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dorian, which strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday afternoon, was already moving past Puerto Rico as of 5 p.m., leading to the probability it will become a “dangerous” major hurricane sooner than later.
The storm is expected to intensify into a Category 3 hurricane as it sets its sights on the east coast of Florida. Hurricane Hunters found sustained winds of 80 mph and forecasters’ 5 p.m. Wednesday advisory included nearly the entire state of Florida within the forecast cone. Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency.
