ST GEORGE’S, Grenada — Jamaica have been crowned West Indies Cricket Board Women’s Regional Super50 2013 champions after a dominant performance over Trinidad and Tobago in the final played at the Tanteen Ground in Grenada.
Jamaica blasted Trinidad and Tobago out for a paltry 83 in 38 overs then romped to 86 for 3 in 21.1 overs to gallop to a seven wicket victory.
Jamaica captain Stafanie Taylor snapped up 3 for 13 from seven overs while Shanel Daley supported with 2 for 9, also from seven overs, to leave the Trinidadians stuttering. Only captain Merissa Aguilleira (17) and Stacy Ann King (15) reached double figures as the Trinis limped to their modest total.
The Trinidadians never recovered after being reduced to 3 for 27 in the 12th over. Aguilleira and King then briefly stemmed the slide before they lost three wickets with the score on 61 to leave them tottering at 6 for 61 which later became 8 for 70.
Chinelle Henry led the Jamaican run chase with a run-a-ball 31 with six boundaries while Natasha McLean made a resolute unbeaten 22 from 63 deliveries which contained three fours.
The confident Jamaicans retained their title which they also won in 2012 by marching to 86 for the loss of only Jodi-Ann Morgan (13), Taylor (10) and Henry. McLean and Chedean Nation (0*) formalized the victory for the Reggae Girls.
The teams will now take a short break before commencing the Twenty20 Tournament which gets on the way on Friday August 16th and concludes with the final on Thursday August 22 at the Grenada National Stadium.
The other six teams in the tournament are Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
