Cotton-Thomas Comprehensive & St. Christopher Children’s Home receive kites
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (April 3rd, 2013) – Digicel continues to ensure that the Easter tradition of kite-making and flying continue to live on in St. Kitts & Nevis, with the support of popular kite-maker, Mr. Curvis Jeffers. As customary, over the past 5 years, Digicel sponsored “A Kite-Making Project” that saw each child of the Cotton-Thomas Comprehensive School and the St. Christopher Children’s Home receive a beautifully hand-crafted kite in time for Good Friday.
During a very brief, yet significant hand-over ceremony at the Cotton-Thomas Comprehensive School on Wednesday 27th April, the Digicel Team along with Mr. Curvis Jeffers, gifted each student with a colourful kite, who in turn flashed a ‘thank you’ smile to all who were present. School Principal Mrs. Michelle Jacobs thanked Digicel for their continued expressions of love toward the school especially during this season when the children look forward to receiving personal kites for the Easter holiday. On Good Friday, popularly known as “kite flying day”, the Digicel staff members visited the St. Christopher Children’s Home where the children were happy to see their extended family once again, this time to present each with a kite.
All roads then led to Ian “Rookie” Phipps’ Generation’s Change 3rd Annual Kite Flying Festival at Frigate Bay where the children of the Children’s Home joined their peers to enjoy an afternoon of kite flying, food and socializing. During the afternoon, the children tested their kite-flying skills in competitions to see who could fly their kite the highest and keep it longest in the air. At the end of the day, all the children enjoyed the Good Friday activities and in their own unique way, thanked Digicel for making their Easter a memorable one.
Digicel’s financial assistance to Mr. Curvis Jeffers for the past five years has assisted in making “A Kite Making Project” possible. The initiative has grown from year to year with more children receiving kites to enjoy on Good Friday. From the inception of the project, fifty kites were distributed and now the project has grown to a total of eighty kites. “I must express thanks and appreciation to Digicel Family for helping me to complete this project every year,” expressed a very grateful Jeffers.
Easter however is not over at Digicel! Customers have been winning supermarket grocery vouchers in Digicel’s Easter Hunt Promotion. To qualify, customers are encouraged to top up $10 or more and collect letters to spell HUNT or pay their postpaid bill in full & on time. The promotion ends on Friday 12th April, and will see 3 winners taking part in the Supermarket Sweep grand finale.
