Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 01, 2016 (SKNIS): Teachers across St. Kitts and Nevis have been wished a restful summer vacation but were also charged to prepare for the challenges of the new school year.
During Thursday’s (June 30) sitting of the Federal Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Honourable Shawn Richards, spoke briefly about the concluding school term and said he thought it was a successful one.
Authorities agree that a large part of that success was largely guided by the hard work of the dedicated faculty.
“I want to say to the teachers to have a wonderful and relaxing vacation and to return to the new school year full of energy and ready to teach our students, to teach generations to come because of course as a teacher you impact not just the current generation but also future generations,” he said.
The deputy prime minister expressed best wishes to students as well as they await the various exam results.
The listening and viewing audience was also reminded of the Government’s commitment to build a modern Basseterre High School. He said construction will begin this year on the new facility and plans are progressing well.
Minister Richards further thanked the outgoing Permanent Secretary (PS) of Education, Ionie Liburd-Willett, for her contributions to the field of Education and stewardship of the ministry over the years. At a press conference this week, Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, announced that Mrs. Liburd-Willett is to take up the post as PS in the Ministry of Health.
