Cricket : VPL Knockout Tournament Ends Prematurely

The highly anticipated start to the revitalized Village Premier League (VPL) took place on Sunday, May 12th, at the Hardtimes playfield.

The scheduled knockout tournament got off to a late start because most of the teams were late. However, the knockout tournament proceeded with the four teams that showed up.

In the first game, the Guyanese team defeated the Rawlins Bushwhackers in a close match. In the second game, Easterns dominated the SDA Jets, setting up the grand finals between the Guyanese and Easterns.

The Guyanese batted first and scored 36 for 5 in their allotted five overs. The Easterns team, required to bat in failing light, eventually refused to continue as there were no artificial lights on the grounds.

This created chaos as the organizers attempted to determine an overall winner. It is understood that the game may be replayed on the upcoming holiday, Monday, May 20th.

The official tournament will begin this coming Sunday, May 19th, with two matches:
– 12:30 pm: Easterns vs. Bushwhackers
– 3 pm: SDA Jets vs. HFR Sports
