Three of Nevis’ finest under 19 cricketers, left the Oualie pier on Sunday 14th November, en route to Antigua.
The threesome: Justin Amurdan, Onaje Amory and Jaden Carmichael will be joined in Antigua by Carlon Bowens Tuckett, who will fly in from Barbados, where he is currently spending some time.
Amurdan, Bowens-Tuckett and Amory, were part of the West Indies under 19 team that recently toured England and all performed reasonably well.
Carmichael missed out on that tour but is committed to not missing out this time for the final Windies under 19 team to be selected for the under 19 world cup, which will be held in the West Indies, in early 2022.
Starting on Thursday of this week, the young players will be part of trial matches, to be played in Antigua, which will help to determine the final Windies lineup for the grand tournament.
President of the Nevis Cricket Association, Carlisle Powell, was on hand and told the players to bat and bowl well.
“Bat deep when you bat—don’t give away your wickets and bowl well. Don’t give away unnecessary runs and look to get wickets,” he admonished.
Also on hand, were parents and siblings of the young players, along with West Indies umpire and father of Carlon Bowens-Tuckett, Carl Tuckett.
The players all indicated that they will certainly make the most of the trial matches and will do their utmost to get into the final team.
