Cricket : Nevisians Await with Bated Breaths

The events for Independence 40 are being highlighted and it sounds like a very exciting package.

However, Nevisians and other cricket lovers around the world, await with a measure of anxiety, to learn whether or not, the first Leeward Islander to make it into the West Indies cricket team and who in effect opened the doors for other greats like Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Andy Roberts to follow, will indeed be officially named a national hero of the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The ultimate hero is Elquemedo Tonito Willet.

Prime Minister Dr. Terence Drew hinted at that possibility, during his speech at Willet’s 50th year of making it into the prestigious team gala and Sir Andy Roberts brazenly stated then, that the honour is long overdue.

Since then, scores of individuals within the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, have signed a petition, requesting that the stated honour be bestowed-sooner, rather than later.

The significant day for the commemoration of national heroes is fast approaching.

The clock is ticking…….
