Cricket : Miller Powers Royals Onwards

An unexpected floodlight failure at the National Stadium in Providence, Guyana resulted in a shortened match during the Eliminator game of the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

After a two-hour delay to fix the lights, the Barbados Royals were set a revised target of 60 runs in five overs. They successfully chased down the target, with David Miller playing a key role by scoring a quick fifty off 17 balls, including five sixes and three fours.

The Trinbago Knight Riders batted first and scored 168/3 off 19.1 overs before the lights went out. Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 91 off 60 balls was the highlight of their innings, with support from Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell.

Despite not taking many wickets, the Royals bowled well to restrict the Knight Riders. The Royals were relieved to get back on the field after the floodlight failure, and their revised chase was an exciting and fast-paced affair.

David Miller’s aggressive batting led the Royals to victory, with Sunil Narine taking an early wicket but Miller quickly turning the momentum in favor of the Royals. Miller’s explosive batting secured the win for the Royals, earning him the Player of the Match award and advancing the Barbados Royals to the second eliminator after an eventful night in Guyana.
