The Nevis Masters cricket team, played another practice match, in preparation for the upcoming Leeward Islands Masters tournament, slated for this month’s end.
On Sunday 14th May, they engaged the much more youthful Young Guns team, out of St. Kitts, as part of the Empire Sports Club’s cricket festival, which was held at the VOJN grounds.
Young Guns won the toss and elected to bat first.
They scored rapidly, mostly in boundaries, complements of two stand-out knocks by Jaleel Clarke who scored a century and Jatin Patel, who scored a half-century.
A target of 168 was considered to be well out of the reach of the elder statesmen.
However, the Master’s team gave back as much as they received –and a little more.
Exciting knocks came from Curtis Morton, Curtis Dore and Venrick Newton, with Sterling Marshall and Skipper Joel Simmonds completing the task, with cameos of their own.
Summarized scores: Young Guns 167 for 3: Jaleel Clarke 109; Jatin Patel 54
