It was as one-sided an affair as you can get.
Empire faced off with SDA Jets in the ongoing T-20 tournament, being hosted by the Nevis Cricket Association.
The venue was the VOJN grounds, on Sunday 27th December.
The Jets team was faced with an early problem and seriously thought about throwing the match, as they were only able to salvage eight players on the day.
To compound the issue, they lost the toss and were asked to field first.
Despite the limited number of fielders, the rules stipulate that four players had to remain inside the circle at all times.
Empire lost the early wicket of their captain, Adelvin Philip, to a scintillating bowled and caught effort, by Carlon Smithen, who leapt to his right and plucked the ball out of the air.
Thereafter though, Andre Browne and Jelani Manners, teamed up in an enterprising and entertaining partnership, as they hit the ball to all parts of the field and ran two’s and three’s, where they normally would have only gotten one run.
They were still together when the overs ran out. Browne had made a fine century and Manners a punishing half-ton.
The depleted Jets got into further trouble, early in their response, as ace batsman, Carlon Smithen, was taken out of the remainder of the match, with a searing toe breaker of a yorker, from former Windies under 19 pacer, Nelson Boland, which struck him flush on his instep and resulted in instant swelling.
Captain Curtis Morton, struck a few lusty blows of his own, but after he holed out at deep midwicket, the Jets meekly surrendered to their inevitable fate.
