Basseterre, St. Kitts (November 18, 2013) — Referee Stedroy Douglas had to steady his nerves following a nail biting game on Sunday November 17 between Half Way Tree FC and Newtown Ground FC in the ongoing National Insurance Ltd Sandy Point Community Football League.
The game, which was the second played on Sunday, saw the two opposing teams tied one-all at the end of regulation time. The referee sent the game into the shootout penalties stage where the two teams tied on six-all.
After each player had a chance to kick, passing the sudden death stage, the game was decided by a coin toss, which was won by Newtown Ground FC.
In the first game, which was also refereed by Stedroy Douglas, Sandy Point Future Ballers FC trounced Unique Touch FC 7-3 in a fast and entertaining match.
Despite their losing the game, Unique Touch drew the first blood in the 10th minute when Michael Thompson rocked the Sandy Point Future Ballers FC net. However, unshaken by the early setback, Sandy Point Future Ballers equalised in the 16th minute with a goal by Vallen Rogers.
Allanique Williams put the Sandy Point Future Ballers ahead with a goal in the 25th minute, and Unique Touch quickly cancelled the deficit in the 27th minute with a goal from Deshawn Francis and the teams tied at two-all.
Tijahni Fahie tilted the scales for Sandy Point Future Ballers when he scored their third goal in the 29th minute and Allanique Williams added a fourth goal in the 33rd minute. Michael Thompson of Unique Touch pumped in a goal in the 35th minute in an attempt to wipe out the deficit, but that was all they managed.
Sandy Point Future Ballers took control of the rest of the game, with Vallen Rogers scoring in the 39th minute, Ezrain Francis in the 48th minute and Valdon Rogers in the 56th minute to win the game 7-3.
