Clash of the Shops off To a Rollicking Start

It’s an initiative of long-serving Coach of the Bath United Football Club, Alex Claxton.  Following hot on the heels of the Upper versus Lower Bath clashes, Claxton has now coined a new tournament, THE CLASH OF THE SHOPS.

Footballers mainly from Bath Village, with a few exceptions, were drafted to represent some of the well-known shops in the Village, in a super tournament.  It is a seven a side tournament, with twenty minutes per half and a three minutes break in between.  The field has been made smaller and so too the goals.

The representative shops are:
Rosey’s bar and Snackette – Elrose Arthurton
The Corner Shop -Joseph Claxton
Friends’ Bar – Alfred Newton
You and Me – George Martin
Black Hat’s Place – Hesketh Wade

On Sunday, August 23, a brief opening ceremony set the tone for the tournament.

The proceedings were ably chaired by Alex Claxton and the invocation delivered by Jalmyn Myers.  Aljae Newton expressed appreciation on behalf of the shops and the feature address was delivered by Lester Blackett, the former outstanding athlete and footballer.

Immediately after the ceremony, two exciting games were played.

Game one:
The Corner Shop 5 – Rosey’s Bar 3
Scoring for the Corner Shop – Ishun Smithen 2; Devanyo Caines 1; Romario Daniel 1; Rasean Browne 1
Scoring for Rosey’s Bar – Curtis Morton Jr scored a hattrick, all three goals.

Game two:
Friends’ Bar 5 – You and Me 1
Scoring for Friends Bar – Jeangardy Pettifiere 2; Trevon Dunrod 1; Keon Smithen 1; Derrick Weekes 1
