Christmas Incentive Programme Applicable to Items Intended for Personal Use and Not for Resale

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 27, 2018 (SKNIS): Deputy Financial Secretary, Calvin Edwards emphasizes the point made last week by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris that the Christmas Incentive Programme is applicable to items intended for personal use only and not for resale.

The Christmas Incentive Programme is implemented during the Christmas and Carnival Season to provide duty concessions on foodstuff, gift packages and passenger allowances for the month of December to citizens and residents.

The following concessions will be granted: non-commercial importation of foodstuff up to 400lbs in weight would be allowed free of duty and taxes; individuals are allowed to import non-commercial goods valued up to US$200 free of duty and taxes, and individuals travelling in December are eligible to duty and tax concessions on goods brought in up to a value US$200.

Mr. Edwards said that the concessions also cater to online shoppers.

“As in previous years, individuals ordering items during the period December 01-31 2018, would be exempted from duty and taxes on items with a value up to US$200,” said Mr. Edwards

The duty-free allowances announced by Prime Minister Harris complements the two discounted Value Added Tax (VAT) Rate Days planned for Friday, December 14 and Thursday, December 20, 2018.
