The much talked about senior boys’ cross country at the Joycelyn liburd Primary school, attracted quite a gathering of parents and other family members, to witness the event on Tuesday 6th February.
The athletes commenced just above the Gingerland Police Station, ran through Hard times; ran straight up Rawlins road and made a left turn by the residence of the late William Archibald and another left turn, by the water tank in Rawlins and then down the Rawlins main road, exiting at Market Shop and then back to the school.
As the race progressed, persons could be heard encouraging the athletes who were touted to take the race.
Names like ‘DING-DONG,’ JOSE and RAJAUN were the popular ones but out of the blue, the small figure of Carlon Ferdinand, emerged at the top of the pack and he never looked back.
He came down the Rawlins road as if someone had told him that a flight was leaving the JLPS in two minutes and he had to catch it.
He ran into the school yard as if he could do the entire course again. A true champion.
