Blanket Night Is Here Again!

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- As part of this year’s celebration of School Library month the school librarians will be hosting our Blanket Night Activity. Blanket night is a reading activity targeting families with pre and lower primary school aged children. Families will gather at Elquemedo T. Willet (ETW) Park on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. to participate in story time, singing, fun games and activities.

Blanket Night

Parents will also be provided with information on how to improve their family reading time at home. It is our hope that blanket night will provide a fun, relaxed, interactive environment for family reading as well as provide the impetus for parents reading to their children at home.

To this end, registered families, for a small fee of $20, will be provided with what we have dubbed “A Family Reading Kit”. The Family Reading Kit will include a blanket, story book and a Family Reading booklet with tips on family reading and resources to enhance family reading.

Blanket Night 2014 will be a collaborative effort between the school librarians, The Nevis Association of South Florida, and local co-operate partners. We are truly grateful to all who have and will contribute.

Families are asked to gather at the ETW Park at 6:00 p.m. so that we can have a prompt start at 6:30 p.m. There will be a brief opening ceremony which will close with our interactive singing segment and special quest appearance by Sponge Bob!

Families will then move to their assigned tents where the Family Reading Kit will be distributed and they will have story time and play outdoor games. Open discussions will follow story time and the information in the reading packages will be discussed with a view to helping parents become better prepared for family reading at home. Refreshments will be available for sale.

We are expecting to have a grand time that will propel all our families to start or continue family reading at home! We hope to see you all there!!!
Registration forms are available at all schools, the Ministry of Education and from all School Librarians. Registration is only $20…Register NOW!
