It was billed as ‘the big one’ and it was a match which was much anticipated in the ongoing local Netball league, hosted by the Nevis Netball Association.
The action took place at the Grell Hull- Stevens Netball Complex on the evening of Saturday 27th April as Stoney Grove Untouchables faced off with Bath United. Both teams had their full complement of experienced players, most of whom would have previously played for national teams at varying levels.
The match started disappointingly as Stoney Grove Untouchables quickly put in three goals from the accurate shooting of former West Indies captain, Lydia Thompson-Claxton, without a whisper from the Bath United team.
Then suddenly the game plan changed and once goal shooter Shantel Isles of the Bath United team got the ball in her hands, she hardly missed and she was well supported by young Nisbett.
At the end of the first quarter, the score line was 5 goals all.
Bath United stepped it up a bit in the second quarter and by the whistle, the score had progressed to 18 to 10 in favour of the Bath team.
Stoney Grove would have been hoping to pull it back in the third quarter but that was not to be as Bath United continued to sink goals at a regular rate. The score at the end of the third quarter was 27 to 13 in favour of the Bath team.
In the final quarter, Stoney Grove converted 7 goals but Bath United responded with 8 of their own to make the final score 34 to 21 and Shelly Taylor and the Bath crew celebrated in style.
In the first game of the evening, Pioneers swamped the upcoming Development team 20 goals to 4.
