On Sunday, June 16th, an important event took place at the Nevis Athletic Stadium. It was the 2024 NATIONALS/Olympic trials, where many top athletes from St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as some from other countries, participated.
Delwayne Delaney, the President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Athletic Association, mentioned that the meet was held in honour of two influential figures in the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis who have passed away. These individuals made significant contributions to the development of athletics in the country.
Delaney highlighted the contributions of Alphonso Bridgewater, who played a pioneering role from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics to the 2021 Japan Olympics. He also acknowledged Blackett as another pioneer, emphasizing his creation of the Interprimary sports meet and other major contributions. The association expressed appreciation for the sacrifices and commitment of these two individuals.
