On Wednesday 19th July, the SKN Moves Nevis Chapter held a press conference at the conference room of the Administration building in Charlestown.
The press briefing was ably chaired by Ms. Shelagh James, chief coordinator of the upcoming event, known as THE NEVIS KNOCK OUT.
Last year’s event was a huge success and the working committee envisages that this year’s event will be even more exciting.
However, thirteen of the sixteen persons required for the event, have already signed up and there is hope that three more will register before Saturday’s starting date.
A registration fee of $20.00 EC is required for each registrant.
Committee member, Dejon Liburd, explained that the competition will be run over the next three weeks:
Saturday 22nd July, starting at 4 pm, at the FIT Park, eight persons will be eliminated.
Saturday 29th July, starting at 4 pm, at the same venue, four more persons will be eliminated.
Saturday 5th August, starting at 4 pm at the same venue, the remaining four competitors will vie for championship honours.
Saturday 12th August is being held as a reserve date, just in case there are any hiccups, as in the case of a day being rained out.
David Walwyn was quick to point out that safety features have been enhanced at the FIT Park and even though the course is challenging, it is not impossible.
It will indeed test stamina, fitness levels and endurance.
The manager at the Bank of Nevis, Mr. Everette Martin, indicated that his institution was proud to be the main sponsor of the event, as health and wellness are a priority for the bank, in terms of its corporate responsibility. He noted that the bank is concerned about the quality of life, of the people on the island.
The SKN Moves –Nevis Chapter, also used the opportunity to launch its Facebook page.
This was explained by Dejon Liburd and Chris Clarke, who had assisted Ms. James in achieving this major milestone. The general public can now stay abreast with the activities of the SKN Moves-Nevis Chapter, in more detail.
Ms. Nichole Liburd-Public Health Administrator in the Ministry of Health, pledged the NIA‘s continued support for such programs and she congratulated Mr. Martin and the Bank of Nevis, for their significant sponsorship and gave kudos to Ms. James for all of her sacrificial work in coordinating such events.
Members of the press were able to field questions and Ms. James gave the official thank yous.
