A one-day training workshop for coaches on Nevis took place at the Albertha Payne community center in Bath village on Wednesday 11th January.
The workshop focused on specific training in the conduct of relays
The training session was preceded by a brief opening ceremony, which was chaired by Director of Sports on Nevis, Jamir Claxton, who noted that capacity building is a part of personal development and asked the local coaches to learn as much as possible so that they can better train their respective athletes.
Also delivering brief remarks were the Track and Field coordinator in St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Timothy Morton and St. Kitts and Nevis Athletics President, Mr. Delwayne Delaney.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Sports and Education, Mr. Kevin Barrett, gave the feature address and thanked St. Kitts and Nevis Athletic Association for their partnership in enhancing the skills of the local coaches.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Coach Kerisha Powell.
Immediately following the opening ceremony, the coaches went into two interactive sessions, firstly with facilitator, Mr. Lonzo Wilkinson who is a level two instructor and level five coach. He guided the coaches on various techniques as regards baton passing, running within lanes, etc.
The second presenter was Ms. Eunice Greenaway, the Area Technical Official for St. Kitts and Nevis, who delved into the basic rules which guide the conduct of relays.
After the session at the community center, the coaches journeyed to the Nevis Athletic stadium where they received practical training from the two instructors, utilizing students from several primary schools across the island.
