Kaliyah Jones, a 17-year-old from Nevis, recently represented Monroe University in New York and made an impressive debut in her first indoor race.
Competing against 20-year-olds, Jones opened her day with an outstanding performance in the women’s 500m event last Friday. She finished fifth overall out of a competitive field of 38 runners, clocking a time of 1:18.44 seconds. This achievement also qualified her for the 600m event with a time of 1:38.84, earning her a spot in the upcoming 2025 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas, where she will have the opportunity to compete on the national stage.
Jones’s performance was a highlight for the Mustangs at the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invite, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
She is coached by Shirvon Greene, who is also from Nevis.
