The Ivor Walters Primary School held its annual sports meet at the Nevis Athletic Stadium on Wednesday, February 26th.
The distinguished patron for the event was Ms. Tayeka “Trika” Browne. The meet was dedicated to the memory of the late star athlete from the school, J’Marni Smithen, who was tragically gunned down last year. Special presentations were made to his mother and the patron, and a dance performance was held, accompanied by the release of balloons in honor of the fallen hero.
Competition was intense as athletes showcased their skills in various races, including the 400, 800, 1200, 200, 100, and both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. The score remained close between the houses up until the final race. Ultimately, Gold House emerged victorious, winning by just five points over Green House.
A highlight of the day came during the Grade Five 100 meters event when Ty’Aisha Jeffers fell. Instead of continuing her race, Zhynaire Jeffers went back to help her teammate to her feet and escorted her across the finish line, demonstrating an extraordinary act of sportsmanship.
Final Scores:
– Gold House: 349 points (Champions)
– Green House: 344 points
