Athletics : A1 Farms and AMP Promotions 5 Star Parish Relay Championship Promises to Be Huge

Many athletic fans may assume that the athletic season on Nevis comes to an end once the Interprimary meet is over. However, that is not the case. On Sunday, April 28th, the inaugural A1 Farms and AMP promotions 5-star Parish relay championship will take place, which is another massive event.

The meet will feature athletes of various ages, who represent the five parishes on Nevis. All parish teams are sponsored, and they will wear shirts of varying colours, representing their sponsors. Each parish team has a head coach, along with a support coaching staff. The five parishes are as follows: St. Thomas’ Dragons (Green), sponsored by National Bank, with Jamie Hamilton as the head coach; St. James’ Tigers (Orange), sponsored by X-Petrol, Islander, and Finished Touch, with Adrian Williams as the head coach; St. George’s Hawks (Blue), sponsored by Nevis Credit Union, with Eutroy Liburd as the head coach; St. John’s Mustangs (Maroon), sponsored by SL Horsford’s and Carib Breweries, with Kazel Williams as the head coach; and St. Paul’s Falcons (Yellow), sponsored by The Bank of Nevis, with Royston Queeley as the head coach.

Supporters can purchase shirts to represent their respective teams at A1 office in Charlestown at a cost of $60.00 EC.

There are five age categories for participating athletes: Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, and 18 and over. There will be a total of 30 events, which include 4×100, 4×200, 4×300, 4×400, 4×800 open, and a sprint medley. The event will start at 1 pm, and admission prices are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children under 12 years of age. Prices for vendors will be negotiated.

Mackie Tross, representing A1 Farms, is hopeful that this event will lead to similar events in St. Kitts, and eventually, the top teams from both islands can face off. Steve Tyson and Nelson Spring Water have offered their services and products as the main water provider on the day, while Carl Tyson will bring along his big screen to help with advertisements and replays, etc.

One event that fans should not miss is the tug of war showdown between the parishes, which will be a special feature of the day.
