NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (September 26, 2013) — Acting Premier of Nevis Hon. Mark Brantley welcomed Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina based in Jamaica, His Excellency Ariel Fernandez to Nevis, when he paid him a courtesy visit at his Bath Plain office on September 26, 2013.
During the brief but momentous meeting, Mr. Brantley urged the Ambassador to enjoy the island outside of his official duties and all it had to offer. The Ambassador was on Nevis to attend a workshop in collaboration with the Disaster Management Department.
“Ambassador, I would wish to welcome you to Nevis and to St. Kitts and Nevis in my capacity as Acting Premier because our Premier is currently abroad on business and I apologise for his absence. He would have been delighted to receive you but certainly he could not be here today and so I am standing in for him.
“I would like to welcome you to St. Kitts and Nevis and to say to you, as I say to everyone who comes that we are a beautiful country; a small country but our hope would be that you come not just for business but also to enjoy some golf, some fine dining; some fishing, some diving. We have a number of activities that we hope you can enjoy,” he said.
In response, Ambassador Fernandez said it was his first visit to Nevis and had already spent nine days on the island however he had visited St. Kitts three times before. He said he was honoured to visit and would work to develop a more consistent bilateral relationship with the island.
“In fact this is my third visit to the Federation, my first visit to Nevis. So it has been a great honour for me to try to develop a more consistent bilateral relationship with the Federation and try to establish a positive agenda; increasing agenda and help, if we can, to have a large number of activities and take in some learning from St. Kitts and Nevis too because that is the spirit of South-South Cooperation.
“So I thank you very much for this reception and I have been in this country for nine days so I am trying to establish a record. I will transmit to my authorities this very nice and kind reception and you will see me many more times here,” he said.
