(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- The alleged attacker of Medical University of the Americas’ student, Samar Haroon was today Tuesday, October 08, 2013 remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison by Her Honor, Magistrate Yasmine Clarke.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Hector presented an application to the District ‘C’ Magistrate Court for Shane Shorter of Shaw’s Road, New Castle to be remanded to prison. Hector was of the view that Shorter, who is originally from Jamaica, is a possible flight risk.
Her Honor, Magistrate Clarke granted the application and as a result Shorter was remanded to the over populated prison in St. Kitts.
Shorter was formally arrested and charged with wounding to commit murder to Samar Haroon at New Castle, on October 1, 2013. He was also charged with breaking and entering the home of Haroon’s and stealing one (1) Samsung Tablet and one (1) speaker all valued at a total of $1953.52 E.C.
This publication also learnt that the defendant’s mother is currently in police custody. According to information received it is alleged that the mother who is also Jamaican, bought a ticket for her son to leave the Federation.
The accused will remain remanded in prison until his case is brought before the court.
