Manager of the Drag Racing Unit in Charlestown, CJ Bartlette on Wednesday announced that everything is pretty much set for the grand Independence Drag Racing event, set to take place this weekend.
The test and tune event will be held at the St.James’ Raceway on Saturday 21st September with the admission being $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.
The main day of competition will be on Sunday 22nd September with the admission being $20.00 adults and $10.00 for children.
According to Bartlette the following islands have confirmed participation for the event:
St.Maarten and Anguilla—22 vehicles
St.Eustatius—20 bikes
St.Croix
Antigua
St.Kitts
Nevis
There are quite a number of much anticipated match –ups to look forward to, including the reigning champion KING OF CALI with owner ‘MOON’ insisting that his car can even clock a faster time than the last race. Added to that, Sherlock out of St.Kitts and the cars from Antigua and St.Croix are expected to provide stiff competition. There is also the long awaited return of DAN and PANCHO.
Some business places have chipped in with some giveaways for the top racers. These include:
Dinner for two at Nisbett’s Plantation Inn
Night for two at Oualie Beach Hotel
Dinner for two at Sunshine’s
Some giveaways are also being arranged for some of the lucky spectators.
Additional entertainment will be provided by a popular DJ and live music by the renowned ULTRA SONICS Band.
Bartlette is urging the fans to show up early on race day, as the action will be fast and furious.
