Adrian Williams of Nevis established a new National Record in the Senior Javelin event, with his second throw at the John Jacobs Invitational, held at the University of Oklahoma, in Norman Oklahoma, on Saturday 23rd April, 2016.
He threw a distance of 68.20m (223′ 9″) breaking his own National record of 66.95m (219′ 8″), set at the 2016 Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on 30th March 2016. The freshman placed second in the overall results behind Tyler Renton, a Senior of Oklahoma University, who threw 69.20m (227′ 0.75″). His throw series were as follows: Foul, 68.20m, 66.18m, 65.03m, 65.65m, Foul – an excellent series of throws.
This was the second meet that Adrian surpassed his own National Record in the U.S. which was originally established at 66.87m in 2015. He also broke the School Record for South Plains College for the third consecutive time, initially established on 11th April 2015 at 59.43m (195’ 0”).
Adrian Williams impressed in his first Javelin competition for South Plains College, on 25th March 2016, at the University of Texas El Paso, as his throw of 63.50m (208′ 4″) was good enough for second place. He immediately became the top thrower in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Adrian continues to be ranked the No. 1 Javelin thrower in Division 1 of the NJCAA.
When asked about his improvements, Adrian stated “I’ve been working hard since I got here … I came here with a goal and that’s to strive for greatness until it’s run out. I’m just happy to see improvements … it shows that there’s room for me to go further and I’m going to keep on improving until my God tells me otherwise … because he the one that guides my hand and mind to deliver what I’m training for, “success” “
Adrian Williams was the most prolific Junior Athlete in the history of Track & Field for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. As a sample of his performance shows:
In 2010 he won the first Carifta gold for St. Kitts & Nevis in seven years. In 2011, he made history by establishing a new Javelin record at the Carifta games, a feat never before accomplished by any athlete of St. Kitts & Nevis.
He also won a silver medal at the Central American & Caribbean Junior Championships in Santo Domingo. He competed at the XIX Central American and Caribbean Junior Championship (CAC) in El Salvador in 2012 capturing the Gold Medal with 68.41m and broke the CAC Record. (Junior athletes throw a lesser weighted Javelin).
Adrian’s achievement of the 1st gold in 7 years, the 1st ever double gold, the 1st ever Carifta record by any athlete of St. Kitts or Nevis and the first Track & Field Gold medal at the CAC Junior meet, may never be surpassed. Mr. Williams has also been a great sports ambassador for St. Kitts & Nevis throughout the years
Shortly after his most recent achievement, Junior Minister of Sports on Nevis, the Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams, sent a congratulatory message to Mr. Williams, saluting him on behalf of the people of Nevis and indeed the federation of St.Kitts and Nevis and wishing him many more stand out achievements in the future.
