Carnival Costume

St. Kitts & Nevis National Carnival

In our national flag the colour ‘GREEN’ represents our Fertile Land. However for this section dubbed SUCRE, the star is our sweet, sweet sugarcane. Nationals near and far beam with pride whenever the name “Sugar City” is echoed and for this reason alone it is only fitting that our young revellers represent the rebirth of what once made us stand out despite our small size. SUCRE is the Sugar Renewal.

FEMALE COSTUME – Green cropped spaghetti strapped top with tassels and matching green shorts. Full green skirt to replicate the sugarcane leaves along with matching sugarcane stalk headpiece. Also part of the headpiece is a V-shaped glitter/ diamond piece across the forehead with the St. Kitts & Nevis flag. Sugarcane stalks are used as a tiny belt for the waist of the skirt as well as a neck choker with a single tiny sugarcane leaf. Large sugarcane cuffs adorn the wrists and ankles.

MALE COSTUME – The attire is mainly a green shirt with a matching green short pant. The back piece represents the leaves of the sugarcane, while the cuffs, belt, headpiece and arm bands are cane stalks. To complete the look, a full glitter/diamond V-shaped neckpiece with the St. Kitts- Nevis flag is worn.

A cane is also provided.
