Three really exciting games were played over the weekend in the Nevis Football Association league held at the ET Willet Park.
In the double header held on Saturday 16th November, a reenergized Hard times team came up against the more reputed Villa Int and held their own throughout, to the astonishment of the pundits.
The Hardtimes team would have had a tough series of matches thus far and would have been badly beaten by the other teams, but on this night they played with energy and skill, beyond the expectations of most persons present.
When the dust settled it was the Villa team which had to come from behind with a stunning goal of their own, in order to equalize.
Three of the goals scored on either side of the field were tremendous goals, with two of them being bombers from about midfield.
The final score: 2 goals—all.
In the first game of the evening, the Brand SLYBO Stoney Grove Strikers came face to face with the determined ALL Stars team. At the end of the match, the score line was 1 goal to nil in favour of the Stoney Grove team.
Manager of the SSG Strikers, Gary Claxton was sorely disappointed with the result. ‘Even though we won the game, just getting one goal versus All Stars must be considered an upset’, he said.
The weekend climaxed with a much anticipated thriller between CCC Bath United and Brantley Bronx United. On Sunday 17th November.
At the half time whistle, blown by Referee Curtis Morton Jr, it seemed like curtains for the Bath team, as they were trailing by a score line of 2 goals to nil and the Bronx team for all intents and purposes, seemed to have the game all sewn up.
However, whatever Manager Alex Claxton said to his team at the break, seemed to have worked.
The Bath team totally dominated the play in the second half, much to the delight of one of their biggest fans, Shelly Taylor, as they drilled home no fewer than four goals before the final whistle sounded.
The final score: 4 goals to 2 in favour of the CCC Bath United team.
