Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 11, 2016 (SKNIS): CARICOM Youth Ambassadors across the region have committed to bring awareness to nationals, through the implementation of two major projects dubbed CARICOM Skills Certificate Awareness and the CSME and the Youth Online Training Online Course.
Dennis McCall Jr., Dean of the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors Corp, and a St. Kitts and Nevis CARICOM Youth Ambassador (CYA), noted that such an initiative was developed because throughout the Caribbean Community, the CYAs realized that the CSME is a major issue that a lot of people do not understand. He gave a brief explanation of the projects.
“We are going to be running a project called CSME Awareness Tour over the next six months,” he said. “We have 34 Ambassadors in 17 Member States and all of the Ambassadors will be going to all the secondary and tertiary schools, as well as some business places to speak to people about the CSME.”
The Dean noted that the CYA Corp is currently undergoing training and the ambassadors are engaging themselves in a lot of research so that they are able to go to the people and fully explain what is going on with the CSME and how it relates to young people.
“Another thing that we are going to be doing is CSME and the Youth Online Training Course in July 2016,” said McCall Jr., while expressing an interest to partner with the University of the West Indies to implement this project. “We will invite young people and the older ones as well to come online so that they could understand what is going on with the CSME, so that they can be trained and go to someone else and educate them.”
He explained that persons who undergo the online course will be invited into schools to further assist in getting the youth educated.
Dennis McCall Jr., stated that the CSME is a great initiative but noted that persons are not fully aware of what it is and what it can do for people within the region. He stated that there is still a great deal of work to be done with respect to awareness.
“Would we be asking a lot of the different questions that we are asking?” he inquired. “If everyone would just jump on board and actually be for the CSME it would make the objective of the CSME so much stronger. We would become a stronger community.”
