The Way I See It
By:Curtis Morton
The way I see it, I don’t like to see people hold people to ransom.
In my opinion, that is exactly what the West Indies senior cricketers are doing to the West Indies cricket Board.
Now don’t get me wrong, if I had a business, I don’t think I would have asked the WICB executives to oversee it for me.
On the other hand, these cricketers seem to be constantly honing after more and more money. The problem is that I am not seeing the resulting effort and energy on the field of play that would make millions of Nevisians and West Indians in general, really happy.
I mean, if people are performing to their maximum and indicate that they need a raise in pay, any reasonable boss would grant it to them.
On the other hand, if you are not producing the goods and causing millions of people to have many sleepless nights and still no regular victories or outstanding performances, to keep them happy and still want a raise in pay, then I have a problem there.
In recent times, they had a strike while on tour and because they did not get their wishes granted, they were forced to come home and abort the tour.
Now, the only good thing with this new proposal, is that thankfully, they did not wait until they had left for the tournament. They said what they had to say up front and so the WICB has put to them the ultimatum to sign by Sunday or not go on the trip.
I believe these guys should have a close look at the Cricketing movie, ‘FIRE IN BABYLON.’
That movie feature really great West Indian cricketers like Sir Vivian Richards; Clive Lloyd; Michael Holding and others. Those guys played cricket as a hobby and when they were chosen to represent the West Indies team, they played their hearts out and were not getting the kind of money that these guys are getting and guess what?
They won! More times than they lost and they kept us happy.
So we stayed up late and we went to work happy…most times.
Nowadays, it’s only the under 19 cricketers who are keeping us smiling.
So maybe we should send them to the T-20 world cup. That’s a thought.
May be better to see Shamar Springer do the chest roll than to see the senior guys doing their thing.
Well I newa!
My recommendation is that we should seek to get our best team but if our best players make themselves unavailable, then we proceed without them!
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it.
