Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 16, 2015 (SKNIS): Adopting a harmonized approach to the development of fiscal policies and the administration of the tax regime, revenue collection and expenditure control are some of the measures to be rolled out to strengthen the relationship between the Federal Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA).
“We are proud of the legacy that is being created …,” Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, said on Tuesday (December 15) at a sitting of the House of Assembly to debate the Budget address. “Advancing the development of both islands makes good sense and would redound to the benefit of the people of our twin island Federation.”
It was mentioned that Nevis has “a proud history of responsible fiscal management” and has a good record of self rule. In order to strengthen the fiscal position, budgetary support from the Federal Government to the NIA was provided.
The St. Kitts and Nevis leader reaffirmed his pledge to “work closely with the NIA in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation” and promised that expertise across both islands will continue to be shared.
