CARICOM Secretary-General hails St. Kitts and Nevis as “stalwart in the regional integration movement” in Independence message

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 20, 2015 (SKNIS)—CARICOM Secretary-General, Irwin LaRocque, has hailed St. Kitts and Nevis as a leader in the regional integration movement in his message to Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris on the country’s celebration of its 32nd  anniversary of independence.

“St. Kitts and Nevis has been a stalwart in the regional integration movement, always prepared to do its part to strengthen and further the interest of the Region”, Ambassador LaRocque said in his congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Harris.

The top CARICOM official also commended the 32nd independence theme “United in Building a Stronger Nation” and described it “as one that surely resonates with your fellow Member States in the Caribbean Community.”

Ambassador LaRocque said that St. Kitts and Nevis has made impressive strides.

“The strides that St Kitts and Nevis has made since that landmark day in 1983 have been impressive and the government and people have shown great resilience in maintaining a steady path in the quest towards a viable and prosperous nation,” he said.

“I wish you all success as the country continues its thrust towards sustainable development that will not only redound to the benefit of the people of St Kitts and Nevis but also to the wider Caribbean Community,” Ambassador LaRocque said, in congratulating the Government and People of St. Kitts and Nevis.
