Basseterre, St.Kitts (PAM Communications):-The People’s Action Movement has announced the party’s candidate for the Constituency #1, East Basseterre seat currently held by the ruling Labour Party and Deputy Prime Minister Dr Earl “Asim” Martin. During the party’s 48th annual convention a huge roar of cheers and a standing ovation greeted the announcement that that popular Radio Talk Show Host and Social Activist Mr Ian “Patches” Liburd will be the People’s Action Movement’s candidate for East Basseterre in the next General Elections.
The former Permanent Secretary and Sports Administrator took the stage backed by a rousing and boisterous show of approval from the hundreds that packed PAM Headquarters for the party’s annual convention.
Liburd took the mic and outlined a number of issues in East Basseterre that he is committed to rectifying as the next Parliamentary representative of the area. He lamented the very poor representation that has been provided over the last 17 years by Hon. Earl Asim Martin.
Liburd declared “We have to understand as politicians that we are employees and the people are the employers and just like in any business when you do not perform YOU ARE FIRED!! and that is exactly the message the people must deliver to not only Asim but Marcella and Ghost, if he can be found…..when you see them tell them YOU ARE FIRED !!!!”
Liburd’s announcement comes at the end of a rigorous Candidate selection process which the party undertook and involved other nominees. It ends months of speculation and confirms the widespread feeling that Liburd was not only the clear front-runner but also the likely candidate.
The People’s Action Movement now has 5 declared candidates for the upcoming elections in Ian “Patches” Liburd (Const#1), Jonel Powell (Const #2), Lindsay Grant (Const #4), Hon. Eugene Hamilton (Const #8) and Party Leader Hon. Shawn Richards (Const #5).
Hon. Richards stated that the party’s candidate selection process for Constituency #6 is in the final stages and an announcement will be made shortly regarding the PAM Candidate there.
