Intense Basketball Game Gets Physical
By: Curtis Morton
It was billed to be an exciting game and the sizeable crowd at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball Complex was indeed given a treat in terms of ball skills, as Old Skool faced off with Bronx Crisis in the NABA League.
This was the first match for Sunday 14th June.
During the final quarter, the score line was tied on a few occasions and neither team allowed the other to take a decisive lead.
The intensity mounted as the players on both sides defended stoutly and executed some vicious looking block shots.
The scoreline at the end of regulation time was Old Skool 61 and Bronx Crisis 61
The Old Skool team went to work immediately in the five minutes of extra time granted. With only seconds on the clock, a critical foul was awarded to Matthew Harding of Bronx Crisis, who went to the free throw line with the score delicately placed on 67 to 65 in favour of Old Skool.
To the chagrin of his team’s fan base, Harding missed both shots. The groans of the fans could have been heard all the way in down town Charlestown!
A few more fouls and some firm block shots, served to prolong the game but at the final whistle; it was the Old Skool team that was celebrating.
Final score: OLD SKOOL 69 BRONX CRISIS 65
During the game, there were a few push offs between opposing players as the intensity mounted. However, the referees kept things pretty much under control.
Disappointingly though, at the final whistle, two players of opposing teams, were seen going toe to toe, with fists flailing, not unlike Mayweather and Pacquiao.
NABA’S President, Wanda Parry indicated that the two players involved in the altercation will be suspended from the league for at least two matches.
