Local Tournament Gets Underway
The island wide local Basketball tournament on Nevis, got on the way on the evening of Saturday 5th April at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball Complex.
The action commenced with a brief ceremony chaired by the Vice President of the Nevis Basketball Association, Ms Veronica Brandy.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by President Wanda Parry who warmly welcomed all of the teams competing this year.
The feature address was delivered by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Keith Glasgow who stressed on the opportunities available to Basketballers and Sportsmen and women in general. He appealed to them to also dedicate time to their academics so that when opportunities such as scholarships are presented, that they would be ready to seize them with both hands.
Representative of LIME, the main sponsor of the tournament, Ms Lornette Powell, spoke eloquently about her company’s continued assistance to community endeavours, including sports and indicated that they were pleased to be associated with the tournament and wished the teams every success.
Immediately after the formal speeches, a presentation of trophies was conducted for outstanding individuals and teams from last year’s tournament as follows:
Most points—Kirthni Esdaille—CG Massives
Most rebounds—Justin Jeffers—CG Rebels
Most steals—Curtis Morton Jr
Most block shots—Justin Jeffers-CG Rebels
MVP for league-Justin Jeffers
3rd place—CG Massives
2nd place—Bronx Crisis
1st place-CG Rebels
MVP for the finals—Jenerson France—CG Rebels
The players of the three top teams also received medals which were presented by Permanent Secretary, Mr. Keith Glasgow.
