BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 24TH 2013 (CUOPM) –Mounting of the first solar panel onto the cast frame will mark the ground breaking ceremony for St. Kitts’ one megawatt solar farm at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on Wednesday 27th March.
Doing so will be St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, the Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin and Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Miguel Li-Jey Tsao.
The 1MW Solar Farm is being constructed to provide power for the airport and forms part of the Federal Government’s Initiative to see St. Kitts and Nevis become the smallest green nation in the Western Hemisphere.
During the ceremony, the General Manager of Speedtech Energy Co. Ltd will give an overview of the project followed by remarks from Ambassador Tsao, Minister of Tourism, Sen. the Hon. Richard Skerritt; Deputy Prime Minister Martin and Prime Minister Douglas.
Deputy Prime Minister Martin last week received a cheque on Wednesday from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the construction of the solar farm at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.
“We see this not only as a area to provide renewable energy for the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, “but as a learning ground, a teaching ground for students to be able to interact with what is happening in the renewable energy field and to be able to see beyond the new Horizon where the Government would want to take our people,” Dr. Martin said at Wednesday’s Ministerial Press Conference.
