Residential Burglaries are also on the rise in the Federation because of the pending Christmas Season. The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force wants to help reduce your chances of being a victim.
Here are a few tips to reduce the chance of your home being burglarized:
Keep your home and yard looking cared for and neat.
Make it sound like someone is home by leaving a radio on, tuned to a talk radio station or news network.
Install light timers and motion detector lighting. Program them to come on early evening and turn off late evening.
Use dead bolts on every exterior door and make sure the strike plates are screwed into the foundation of the home using 3-inch screws and not just into the door frame using 1-inch screws.
Use sliding window/door locks, sticks & pins.
Be observant for suspicious persons, working alone or with others, and those that knock on doors to see if someone is home.
Keep an eye out for people parking in your neighborhood and walking around on foot to several homes.
Finally, dial 911 for emergencies, or 465-2241 for non-emergencies. Call Crimestoppers at 1-800-8477 to report crime and suspicious activity anonymously. Remember, you can remain anonymous and may be eligible for an award.
