**BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (PMO)—** During a discussion on WINN FM’s Inside the News program, Prime Minister Hon. Dr Terrance Drew clarified the government’s decision to implement an 8% salary increase for civil servants. He emphasised that this decision was motivated by a commitment to enhancing financial stability and economic empowerment rather than being linked to the notion of a “double salary.”
Prime Minister Drew stated that the increase is part of a broader strategy aimed at investing in people and ensuring sustainable financial benefits for civil servants and their families.
“Our focus is on the people—ensuring stability, security, and creating long-term opportunities for them to thrive,” he said.
While the 8% increase effectively amounts to an additional month’s pay for a year, the Prime Minister stressed that the intention was not to compare it to traditional ‘double salaries.’ Instead, the aim is to provide consistent and sustainable financial advantages.
“This increase empowers civil servants every month, positively affecting their ability to save, invest, and plan for the future,” PM Drew explained.
The salary adjustment reflects the government’s people-centred approach, which delivers tangible long-term benefits for workers:
