BASSETERRE, St Kitts – The Government of St Kitts and Nevis is taking further steps towards its housing mandate, one of its seven pillars of commitment to the people of St Kitts and Nevis under its Sustainable Island State Agenda, which identifies Sustainable Settlements as a key pillar.
To advance existing plans for housing, The Ministry of Human Settlement, National Housing Corporation (NHC) and the Ministry of Sustainable Development, under its special land distribution initiative, with the Cabinet’s support, chaired a stakeholder meeting with key partners, St Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC), and St Kitts Water Services Department.
This is one of several scheduled meetings to concretise the plan for the cost of infrastructure and development for the NHC Smart Homes Program.
In supporting the government’s housing solutions mandate, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Shez Dore-Tyson, confirmed that the Ministry is doing everything in its power to ensure that housing solutions are provided for those most in need. The Ministry brought all the partners together to ensure that construction begins smoothly and without challenges.
With the support of the Federal Cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis to meet the government’s housing commitment, The Ministry of Sustainable Development will provide the basic infrastructure for the housing program in the various subdivisions.
Development sites will be available nationwide with initial construction in Sandy Point, Sea Breeze Manor in Lodge Village, and Racecourse Housing Development in Newton Ground and Stapleton.
