Sailing : SKN Team Places 5th In Overseas Tournament

**SKN Team of Sailors Achieves 5th Place at the 2024 Caribbean Dinghy Championships**

The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association proudly congratulates our seven-member team for their hard work and dedication at the 2024 Caribbean Dinghy Championships (CDC) held from October 25-27 in Simpson Bay, St. Maarten. Your efforts have made us immensely proud during this thrilling and unforgettable three-day event.

For our six newcomers, the challenge was not easy. However, you faced it head-on, displaying remarkable resilience and determination. On day one, you navigated the challenging swells like true champions. It was an honour to see our team competing among the top 36 sailors from nine Caribbean countries: Sint Maarten, Saint Martin, Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe, and St. Barths, all vying for the title of 2024 CDC Nations Cup Champions. Congratulations to Team Antigua on your fifth consecutive win at the CDC!

Team SKN competed in four of the six classes: RS Quest, Optimist, ILCA 4, and ILCA 6. Our talented team consisted of Jazzelle Connor, Emily Samaroo, Skyla Connor, Greyson Burrell, Abhijith Srinivasan, Melroy Henry, and Amadi Byron-Hendrickson.

Throughout the three-day event, our sailors competed in a total of 15 races. Day one offered favourable wind conditions—not too windy and not too calm, although high swells presented some challenges. As the days progressed, the sailors had to rely on their skills and strategy to navigate the varying conditions. Day three added pressure with dead zones, sudden wind shifts, and moments of no wind at all. Yet, our resilient and strong-willed sailors persevered, completing the final three races to wrap up the event.

This championship was an unforgettable experience for our sailors. We are grateful to the Sint Maarten Yacht Club and the Caribbean Sailing Association for organising such a well-executed event.

The CDC is more than just a sailing regatta; it fosters friendships among young people, coaches, and yacht clubs. It provides opportunities for sharing ideas, exchanging strategies, and building camaraderie.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Coach Karl from the Antigua Yacht Club for sharing your insights and experience with our eager sailors. Your valuable advice was greatly appreciated.

Lastly, we applaud all the sailors, coaches, parents, St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee, Taiwan in St. Kitts and Nevis, Nevis Style Realty, Caribbean Alliance Insurance St. Kitts & Nevis, and all our well-wishers for their unwavering support of Team SKN!

Thank you! We look forward to seeing you next year at the CDC!
