It was the ‘home of stars’ taking the victory lap at the ET Willet Park, as the exciting Runako Morton/TDC Cricket tournament concluded.
The Ivor Walters Primary School (IWPS), faced off with the Joycelyn Liburd Primary (JLPS), on Friday 12th July, in the much-anticipated grand finale.
There was much fanfare at the start of the finals, as the teams marched onto the field of play to join some officials and then the national anthem was sung by a student at the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School.
Immediately after that, a moment’s silence was observed, in honour of the late outstanding educator, Mrs. Jennifer Hodge, who passed recently.
In front of a huge crowd, JLPS won the toss and batted and were off to a careful start and had an impressive opening partnership of 39 runs, but once the opening pair was parted, the JLPS innings went into a huge spin.
Off-spinner T’Vern Herbert took 4 wickets in an over, to turn the game on its head.
JLPS was reduced to 51 for 7, at the end of their allotted 12 overs.
When the IWPS team responded, openers Ajari BILLY Cornelius and Kimani Lawrence, approached the chase, as if they had a plane to catch.
They knocked off the required total in just 6.4 overs, without losing a wicket.
Then the stars truly celebrated, led around the park by coach Hakeem Harvey.
Summarised scores: JLPS 51 for 7: Merchant 15; Fraser 11
Tavern Herbert 4 for 10
IWPS 52 for no loss: Ajari Cornelius 20*; Kimani Lawrence 14*
