Basseterre, Saint Kitts – The newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Saint Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Dr Christophe Eick, visited the Honourable Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saint Kitts and Nevis, to strengthen bilateral ties and explore opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.
Dr. Douglas warmly welcomed Dr. Eick and emphasized the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Germany and Saint Kitts and Nevis. He also expressed his hope for further strengthening of relations and cooperation.
Both representatives, who attended the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States in Antigua and Barbuda, emphasized the significance of the meeting. Foreign Minister Douglas spoke about the importance of the Federation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda and how this resonated with other delegations present at the conference. He expressed satisfaction with the conference’s outcomes and stressed the importance of continued collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by island nations in the context of climate change and sustainable development. Ambassador Eick echoed Dr. Douglas’ sentiments, affirming Germany’s commitment to supporting the efforts of Small Island Developing States in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. He expressed Germany’s readiness to explore areas of cooperation with Saint Kitts and Nevis, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, capacity building, and climate resilience.
