History was made on Sunday in St. Kitts and Nevis when Natasha Grey-Brookes was chosen as the first female political leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM).
Grey-Brookes ran unopposed in her bid to replace PAM leader Shawn Richards, becoming the fifth leader of the 60-year-old party.
The PAM noted that Grey-Brookes, a lawyer by profession, has been an active member of the party since her youth and previously served on the executive as Deputy Political Leader.
Following the election, Grey-Brookes made a brief statement, expressing the need for PAM’s supporters to unite and work towards progressing the party.
In addition to Grey-Brookes, the caucus elected Sheldon Pemberton as the new chairman and appointed Azard Gumbs and Lincoln Pelle as deputy political leaders. Shirley Morgan was chosen as deputy chairman, Joevarny Flemming as assistant general secretary, Drucilla Carty-Richards as treasurer, and Laverne Caines as PRO.
The newly-elected party members will be formally approved at the convention on Sunday, June 9th, 2024.
